We are CHARLIE

.: January 12, 2015

After participating in the largest national gathering at the historic day of the 11th of January, the members of the MEP, deeply affected by the attack of Charlie Hebdo journalists, the Montrouge shooting and Vincennes hostage-taking present their sincere condolences to the victims’ families, their relatives and their friends.

Since Wednesday, 7th of January 2015, all hearts are saddened and every mind distressed. More than twenty people were killed or very seriously injured: Charb whose real name is Stephane Charbonnier, Cabu whose real name is Jean Cabut, Georges Wolinski, Tignous whose real name is Bernard Verlhac, Bernard Maris, Honore whose real name Michel Honore, Michel Renaud, Franck Brinsolaro, Merabet Ahmed Mustapha Ourrad, Frédéric Boisseau, Elsa Cayat, Clarissa Jean-Philippe and other innocents.

We were all saddened by these events that remind us of many people in the Middle East and elsewhere enduring the same sufferings. But we have to look, together and individually, to combat biased ideas, to work for establishing a climate of peace and friendship which is what the MEP is strongly calling for. Everyone should be able to speak freely to participate in the material and moral improvement of civilization. Everyone should be able to tap into the noblest of his faculties and discover his own spiritual reality without being enslaved to some obscurantism or fanaticism.

After the intense moments of emotions, of sharing, and defending the freedom of expression, the MEP appeals the international community to fight with all its energy the terrorism and especially to eliminate the "sources" of the ideology of hatred.
