Conference: The Lure of Jihad, Propaganda and the Construction of Jihadi Identities

.: June 18, 2016

The MEP is pleased to invite you to the conference organized by Elisabeth Kendall about the lure of Jihad, on Tuesday, June 28, 2016, at 10:40 am. This theme will include the analysis of the propaganda and the construction of jihadi identities.

Despite the numerous attempts made to identify the archetypes of jihadi motivation, drivers of jihadi identity vary greatly over time, from one region to another or even from one group to another. This conference will particularly focus on the functioning of propaganda and jihadist recruitment.

All the day, four conference sessions will be conducted by experts and researchers from all around the world, including:
- Valentina Bartolucci, associate researcher at the Interdisciplinary Center Science for Peace in Pisa.
- Thomas Hegghammer, senior research fellow at the Research Norwegian Institute for Defence.
- Christina Hellmich, associate Professor in International Relations and Middle East Studies at the University of Reading.
- Elizabeth Kendall, senior research fellow in Arab and Islamic Studies at Oxford University.
- Nelly Lahoud, senior research fellow at the Institute for Strategic Studies in the Middle East.
- Aymen Jawad Al-Tamimi, a researcher at the Middle East Forum and the Rubin Center in Israel.

Free entrance, open to all members of the University and the public - Registration available online.

Tuesday, June 28, 2016, from 10:40 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. - Pembroke College, Oxford, OX1 1DW, United Kingdom.
